Have you ever wanted to learn how to draw a mandala?
Mandalas have been around for thousands of years and are popular tools for meditation. Whether you just enjoy their beauty or create them yourselves you can get lost in thought, meditation, and prayer. Meditation is good for the body and soul, regardless of your religious beliefs. Meditation provides an opportunity for grounding and connection and can even benefit your overall health.
My high school beginning art students recently completed a unit where we focused on ruler, compass, and protractor skills. We learned about radial balance and the history of Mandalas. At the culmination of our unit, each student designed and drew their own mandala. Students used my video as a guide and the results were stunning!
Here are some of my students finished pieces. Most of these students are 9th grade, beginning art students. They have come a long way since the beginning of the year. (Photos taken by the student artist and used with permission.)
