I love old movies. Movies from the 50s and 60s are among my favorite. Singin’ in the Rain, Parent Trap, House on Haunted Hill, Guys and Dolls, Robinson Crusoe, White Christmas, The Sound of Music, Casino Royale and of course Some Like It Hot.

Richie and I like to have themed movie nights. We pick an old movie and we have snacks and drinks based on a theme derived from the movie. This week we are watching Some Like it Hot and enjoying something SPICY to go with it: McDonald’s new Sriracha Mac Sauce served on their newest Signature Crafted Sandwich or with the McNuggets.
If you have never seen Some Like it Hot it is a fun film starting the beautiful Marilyn Monroe (Sugar) along with Jack Lemmon (Jerry (Gerald)/”Daphne”) and Tony Curtis (Joe/”Josephine”/”Shell Oil Junior”). The film, set in 1929, follows Joe and Jerry as they attempt to escape arrest after their speakeasy is discovered. The men disguise themselves as women and take jobs with Sweet Sue and the Society Syncopators, an all female band. The girl band boards a train to Miami and “Daphne” and “Josephine” travel right along with them. Of course, everything starts to come undone when both fall for Sugar and fight for her affection – a task not easy to do when disguised as women.

The film is funny and somewhat risque. Cross-dressing just wasn’t done on screen during the late 50’s and the film was published with much controversy. The film turned out to be one of the best comedies of all time, was nominated for six Academy Awards and won five Golden Globe Awards.
Tonight we are dusting off our well-used DVD of the film and making a run through the McDonald’s drive-thru. Richie is having the new Signature Crafted Sriracha Sandwich and I am enjoying the Chicken McNuggets with the new Sriracha Mac Dipping Sauce.
The new Signature Crafted Sriracha Sandwich is replacing the Signature Crafted Maple Dijon Sandwich. As with all of the Signature Crafted sandwiches you can choose between the 1/4 pound burger pattie, the Buttermilk Crispy Chicken or the Artisan Chicken for your protein and you get to pick either the Artisan Roll or the Sesame Seed Bun. The sandwich is then topped with tomato, baby greens (spinach and kale), crispy onions, white cheddar cheese and the new Sriracha Mac Sauce which is a little sweet, a little tangy and of course, a little hot!
The new Sriracha Mac Sauce also comes in a dipping cup and goes great with the McNugget’s. It’s the same delicious sauce that is on the new sandwich but in a portable cup that’s perfect for dipping. Rumor has it that the dipping sauce will only be available for a limited time though so get it while it’s hot! (See what I did there?)
And what goes great with a spicy meal? A spicy drink! Well, at least if you are one to “like it hot”! You won’t want to miss my recipe for Spicy Jalapeno LemonLimeade. The recipe also includes a step by step video. You can find the recipe and video here.
